Integrated Child Development Schemes

 
  Integrated Child Development Services Scheme is implemented in Pudukkottai District from 1986 May.1652 Anganwadi Centres and 159 Mini AWCs are functioning in Pudukkottai District.  
 

Objectives

 
 
  • Improve Nutritional, Health and Psycho-social status of children in
    0-6 years of age with particular emphasis on preventing malnutrition in under 3 years and improve child care practices at the household level. 

  • To improve nutrition and health of women particularly pregnant women and nursing mothers and adolescent girls. 

  • To empower women and adolescent girls through increased awareness to take better care of their personal and household health and nutrition issues. 

  • To give special focus on Nutrition to pregnant women and Nursing mothers, infant, adolescent girls and the aged.

 
  The above objectives are formulated to make Tamil Nadu Malnutrition free and to provide a whole life cycle nutrition security programme.

Nutrition and Health Services

 
  Nutrition and Health services are rendered jointly by Nutrition and Health Field functionaries at Children Centre level to maxmise the benefits to target groups.  
 

Early registration of pregnant women

  • Antenatal and Postnatal care - pregnancy weight gain monitoring, Nutrition supplementation, Anemia control and periodical medical examination.

  • Referral of High risk mothers for higher medical facility.

  • Immunization to children and pregnant women.

  • Administration of Vitamin A solution to children.

  • Management of Diarrhea disorder.

  • Supply of iron and Folic Acid tablets to mothers through Health Department as joint service.

  • Management of Acute Respiratory infection among children.

  • De-worming and IFA supplementation to adolescent girls, through Health Department as Joint Services.

 
 
  • For the beneficiaries of the child centres, medicine kit at the rate of Rs. 600/- per kit is provided for child centres.

  • Arrangements have been made to provide children and mothers health and immunization message cards to all children centres.

 
 

Information, Education and Communication (IEC)

 
  IEC is an inbuilt component in ICDS, Nutrition Education and Nutrition Services are delivered concurrently.  IEC activities promote Health and Nutrition services and enhance the credibility and image of Children Centres.  IEC aims at improving maternal and childcare practices, encouraging community participation and motivating community to support ICDS services.  
  IEC activities are implemented as follows:  
  House Visit  
 

Anganwadi workers visit the houses (10days/month) and educate the connectivity on various topics.

 Village level groups are formed and periodical meetings to are conducted to create awareness among the community at various levels.

 
 
  • Children working group (CWG) - I week (Thusday)

  • Women working group (WWG) - II week (Thusday)

  • Adolescent girls working group (AGWG) - III week (Thusday)

  • Village level monitoring committee (VLMC) - IV week (Thusday)

 
  World  Breast-feeding week  
  First week of August is celebrated as world breast feeding week at village level, block level and district level to create awareness about coloustrum breast feeding.  
  National Nutrition Week Celebration  
  Ist week of September is celebrated as nutrition week to create awareness on nutrition aspects for AN/PN workers, 6 Months Children & Adolescent girls with locally available low cost food materials.  
  Nutrition Services  
 
  • The Children 0-36 months are weighed every month and the children between 36 and 60 months are weighed every 3 months regularly for monitoring their growth.

  • Supplementary food is given to the children in the age group of 6-36 months.

  • Supplementary food is given to the Pregnant and Nursing women.

  • The children of 2 to 5 years and old age pensioners are provided with noon meal in the Child Centres.

 
 

Pre- School Education

 
 

Pre school education is imparted for 2- 5 years children.  The objectives of the pre-school education are to promote holistic development of the Child (Physical, emotional, Cognitive, Language and social development) prepare them to attend the schools in the next stage.

  • To promote good habits.

  • To prepare the child for the next stage.

  • To inculcate good human and moral values.

  • To promote over all development of the child

 
 

KISHORI SAKTHI YOJANA (KSY)

 
  Services under Kishori Sakthi Yojana are:  
 
  • 11 - 15 years Adolescent Girls - Orientation Training.

  • 15 - 18 years Adolescent Girls - Vocational Training Programme.

 
  This will increase self confidence.  Improve Nutritional and Health Status of Adolescent Girls and promote awareness of hygiene, Family Welfare, Home Management and Child Care, to gain better understanding of their environment related social issues and impact on their lives etc.

  Annai Indhira Gandhi Weaning food women development industrial co-operative society is functioning in Alangudy, Pudukkottai District.  
 
  • Total members enrolled                        -     66

  • Production capacity of this society      -   200 tonnes/month.

  • Turn over of the society                         -     2 Crores/year.

 
  Sathu Food requirement of Pudukkottai District is met by Annai Indira Weaning Food Women Development Industrial Co-op. Society, Chiristy fried gram factory - Thirucehngode and Rasi Nutri Foods - Rasipuram.  
  Modernization of Anganwadi Centres  
  Under modanization of AWCs programme LPG Gas connection and Cooker are supplied and electrification facilities are provided on phased manner as follows.

  TRAINING DETAILS  
  Job Training  for AWWs  
  30 days of Job Training is imparted to the Anganwadi Workers for 30 days at block level.  
  Refresher Training  for AWWs  
  5 days of Refresher Training is imparted to Anganwadi Workers on completion of
2 years of Job training.  Refresher training is conducted once in 2 years.
 
  Orientation Training for AWHs  
  6 days of orientation training is imparted for the newly recruited Anganwadi helpers.  
  Refresher Training  for AWHs  
  4 days of Refresher Training is imparted to Anganwadi Helpers on completion of 2 years of Orientation training.  Refresher training is conducted once in 2 years
